FC 25 97 Shapeshifters Olise Player Review!

I am not sure which to apologize for first… The recent review hiatus… Or the absolute state of my squad after some of my recent rewards luck. Regardless of those apologies, it is good to be back again and looking into the recent batch of Shapeshifters that entered packs this weekend. For me, Shapeshifters is normally a turning point in the game and marks the beginning of the end. I know lots will argue that this is TOTS, and the more cynical will say it was TOTY, but for me this is it... Something about watching Ibou Konate lining up in goal just says “the end is near.”

Regardless of the stages in the cycle I am still playing, which is definitely some sort of illness, but I still love it. I am not the biggest fan of Shapshifters, yet I am not someone who is going to lose my mind over a VVD striker either… To me this is just part of the game and I am going to make the most of it. In this case it is the need to find a CAM for my squad. Certainly Michael Olise seems more suited as a striker, but the selfish part of me hoped he would turn out to be a brilliant CAM as well.

Olise was an easy fit into my 4-2-1-3 formation and I decided early that I wanted to try him for three matches as a striker and an additional three as a CAM for a total of 6 matches. For the striking matches the HAWK Chemistry Style seemed the best option, with a switch into the ENGINE for the final three as a CAM. The hope in all of this would be to see the same dominance that made Thunderstruck Olise so popular earlier in the year with pros and the general community. Michael Olise shapeshifted between positions all weekend long in the following God squad:

Rating: 9/10

Probably could have noted in my introduction that Thunderstruck Olise was never my favorite card and in fact I struggled to get on with him at all. In the past this can become a trend with the “feel” of certain cards, dooming them regardless of improved statistics, but Olise was certainly a revelation this time around. In the end it was the CAM positioning that trumped the ST and I will certainly dive into it more throughout the review with reasons why, but regardless of where you play Olise I would suggest the ENGINE Chemistry Style in order to get the most out of the Bayern attacker.

Main Statistic - Passing

Passing Rating: 10/10

Pace Rating: 10/10

Weak Foot: ★★★★

PlayStyles: Incisive Pass, Tiki Taka, Quick Step Plus, Rapid

Definitely did not have Olise being one of the most accurate passers that I have used on my Bingo card, but here we are. I guess it should not have been a huge surprise given the Passing statistics after the ENGINE is applied. The 99 SHORT PASSING & 99 VISION work wonders in and around the box to break down defenses and create opportunities for attackers to benefit from. Again, I would suggest going with the ENGINE Chemistry Style regardless of positioning and benefit from the 98 LONG PASSING & 99 CROSSING whenever possible. The 5 assists in 6 matches were closer to 3 matches, as the focus from goal scorer to creator suited Olise well and brought teammates more into each match.

My reason for including Olise’s Pace in the Passing category is the amount of time and space that Olise creates with his pace and the connection to how his Passing is then even more effective. The QUICK STEP Plus on this card is insane and mixed well with the RAPID light to create tons of space and time for me to pick out the correct pass, followed by Olise having the statistics & Playstyles to execute those same passess.

Value/Coins

Value/Coins: 4/5

Don’t get me wrong, Olise performs well on the pitch and the combined 17 goal contributions in 6 matches was both impressive and impactful. But there are few deficiencies in this card that do not justify a million coin price tag. Given some of the cards that are available I am a bit surprised that it was so high to begin with, which leaves a fair bit of room to fall before I would say this is solid value for your coins.

Good vs. Bad

Good vs Bad Rating: 5/5

Beyond the Passing and Pace there were other standouts…

  • The Dribbling is bolstered by the 5 STAR SKILLS and certainly helped again by the excess Pace. FIRST TOUCH & TECHNICAL combined with 99 AGILITY, 99 BALANCE, & 99 DRIBBLING equaled a responsive and shifty card. The L1 accelerations with this card are similar to a slingshot leading to opponents backing off and opening passing/shooting lanes whenever Olise is on the ball in space.
  • The Shooting was another impressive area and even without the HAWK rounding everything off into neat 99 rated categories, Olise can still score consistently. Much like the Thunderstruck version, The FINESSE SHOT Plus with this card is almost automatic and simply whips into the top corner. Small issues with the 4 STAR WEAK FOOT though throughout this one, and certainly a few shots that Olise should have done better with on his weaker right foot.

So why the CAM positioning over the ST?...

  • The 80 Strength with this card borderline kills it off as an option in any position period, and certainly for me as a striker. The amount of times that I had Olise on the half turn passing a defender only to be manhandled off of the ball was certainly frustrating. If opponents miss, you have them dead to rights… But one glance into Olise and the ball is going to be lost. The lack of PRESS PROVEN is certainly not helping matters either.

Closing Words

The CAM position is where Olise stood out to me as the most effective, which 100% relates to the time and space he had, combined with the inability for my opponents to constantly stick him from behind with tackles. As previously mentioned, you can turn that space into quality chances given Olise’s wizardry on the ball and ability to find and execute difficult passess to attackers. The lack of really any standout Physical statistics on a midfielder is concerning, but Olise more than made up for it with speed and craftiness. Yet in the end I don’t think I can really recommend this card though, there are just too many quality options with way lower price tags. Olise turned out to be a fun review, but not one that I would be recommending to friends. Hoping you are well. Cheers for reading.
